First topic message reminder :
I know platformers are getting so-so nowadays but i want to make a story intensive game to reel the player in.
I was wondering if anyone can offer help with a platformer AI? I want to try something else besides the usual move left-right type. i was thinking of several separate objects all with a rotating sprite(gun) attached to it walking around a level trying to look for the player and firing at whatever angle they want and jumping onto ledges to get a better shot. Any info and ideas are greatly welcome. screenshots will come soon.
please help me out or i end up looking like this smiley --->

Storyline:
Deep in a research facility, several containment units have broken down. A lone figure awakens after his stasis chamber breaks down along with several others. A lone guard comes in to investigate, unfortunately he bumps into him. The guard is killed without second thought the moment he approaches him. Taking the guard's weapon with the stranger, he sets himself on a journey to find answers. As he leaves the facility through a path in the sewers, he comes across a city that seemed familliar to him.

hey, uh fooey... took me a while to notice that song you posted it... love the way it sounds... love the beat of the whole thing... got an mp3? i think that one's a keeper. well, without the people talking in the background during the intro.

Uploaded onto the file box. To be honest I'm not sure exactly what most('cept for this one) of their songs are saying(SCREAMMM RAAARRRR). XD

There must be something wrong with this forum here. i'm seeing the exact same page even after a post. anyway, i was planning on making the levels 3d. found a 3d platformer example at the yyg website but i'm still trying to figure it out. any ideas?

nah, i was thinking about making just the platforms as blocks. i tried and it worked. but when i add a background, it just "sticks" to an area around the player and follows the character. it's spooky actually. oh, and my plan was to use regular character sprites with a 3d landscape. it's still a 2d platformer but with 3d blocks as platforms

Exactly, something of that sort... oh, one more problem i spotted was the accuracy of the point_direction to the mouse, when you aim, it's a bit off by a few degrees. i have no absolute talent as a coder. actually took me 3 days to fully customize the platformer example im using as a base for this game.

cool, 'cause i'm actually using the art style of that mixed into my own. there's something about having a fusion of medieval and futuristic style that makes warhammer charming. by the way, i found a really bloody particle engine for the character deaths.
Note: I'm almost ready to release a demo version. ETA: next friday.

technical difficulties. school's server got shutdown.... i'll release it on monday. i can only work on these things at school you see... please remind me on monday. i'll put it up on my website then.

i'll take your offer on the music Fooey. Preferably an mp3 (it may be bigger, but i know the quality is worth it.)
Main character's name is Fury. (not even sure if i like to keep the name Fury) He's a guy born pissed off with everything in his life. The second character (currently without a name) is supposed to be his exact opposite of him, they were both born in the same place but she escaped before Fury did. (somehow i might make her something like a love interest for the perpetually wrathful dude)
Can you guys give her a name?
How about "Hope" or just "Faith"?

guys just put the game on www.ninebreaker.jimdo.com go to the files section to download. its bare bones and you can press r to restart at anytime. no tiles or backgrounds yet. just need you opinion if it works out well.
