Save/Load Engine
Save/Load Engine
This engine will:
-save muliple game files
-organinze them in a list
-load from multiple saved games
-includes it's own load menu
If you've had trouble tring to figure out how to use more than just one save game file then this should help you out alot. It has the ability to display/save/load virturally a limitless amount game save(although I have manually limited to to holding 99 game saves; reversable of coarse). This system could also easily incorperate any kind of custom save method if you are not too fond of the game_save() function of Game Maker.
It is recommended that you know how to code in order to use this but it doesn't really require a lot of coding knowlege.

Re: Save/Load Engine
That's ok . That's where your real game goes. The pre-set variables (name, level, gold) are just examples. You can replace them with what ever is needed.
Re: Save/Load Engine
Yea, its kinda hard to understand. But the beauty is that you don't really have. All you need to know is what is happening when you push the save button.
Re: Save/Load Engine
Hmmm... So all I really have to do is first delete some stuff then I add the stuff I want to? I'm tottally using this thing!
Re: Save/Load Engine
I'll work on this a bit more. I know it's kinda complicated(probably more complicated then I think since I made it), so I'll try to make it easier for you (and/or everyone) to understand.
It'll take me a while though because I am litterally working on like 4 decent sized projects right now; not to mention school.

What would you suggest a classic arcade styled save engine be. Maybe I can incorperate mulitple styles.......when I'm not so busy, of coarse.
Re: Save/Load Engine
You can make this engine autosave as you see fit. You never have to choose a file to save because it is automatically assign a filename(if you use the examples from the example game properly). All you have to do is put in the Room End Event:
ini_save_data();
game_save(program_directory+"\Saved Data\"+global.gameslot+".rpg");
Next time that file is loaded it will continue from where you last saved. Great for keeping mulitple saves, but if your only using one save file you wouldn't need a fancy save/load engine like this one. You'd be better of just saving and loading to one file using the game_save() function.
I will really have to make this engine less complicated so that you only need to use one command to save the game.

Re: Save/Load Engine
I'll probably do that when I get all three Metal sonic Parts done.
For the players benefit it'll come in real handy!
